Second graders read the realistic fiction story, Mr. Tanen’s Tie Trouble and the informational text, Jefferson Daily News.
Our phonics pattern this week is: words with -ed or -ing endings (double the middle consonant) (running, clapped, batted, selling, etc.)
Our target comprehension skill is: story structure. Students will identify plot elements: setting, character, problem, solution
Vocabulary: homophones: students learn that some words sound the same, but they are spelled differently and have different meanings
High-frequency words: also, fly, gone, have, horse, look, river, said, saw, something
Fluency focus: rate: Good readers don’t read too fast or too slow. Our reading rate goal right now for grade 2 is 75 WPM.
Essential Question: How can helping others make you feel good?
Mid-trimester progress reports: These will be sent home with your child this Thursday. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
