Students read, The Trial of Cardigan Jones and You Be the Jury.

Our target comprehension skill is “Drawing Conclusions” through citing the author’s word choice. This requires them to both infer and predict.

Vocabulary: Review long vowels and the VCe pattern, sometimes referred to as “magic e”.

Students learn about using the dictionary and a glossary.

Students review dividing words into syllables using the rules of ‘open’ and ‘closed’ syllables.

Fluency: Phrasing: good readers read words in groups instead of one at a time. We practice how to pause at punctuation marks. We use the visual cues in the online student book to help us chunk sentences together.

Essential Question: Why are courts an important part of our government?
