The class is really enjoying reading Charlotte’s Web! We use a combination of oral and silent reading with each chapter. Sometimes, I will also read the chapter aloud or play a recording of the chapter, read by E.B. White himself. I am noticing that the students are building better vocabulary as they read the rich language in this story.
Our target comprehension skills this week include: setting, sequencing & characterization. Students write and illustrate a ‘postcard from the barn’ describing the setting. Assuming the point of view of a visitor to the barn, students sequence main events that occur when Wilbur escapes from his pen, cheered on in earnest by the goose and other animals.
Students take short written response quizzes on chapters 3 and 4.
