Students read Jellies: The Life of Jellyfish, and Splash Photography.
Phonics Focus: Students practice reading and writing words that have consonant contractions: (I’m, don’t, isn’t, can’t, etc) and words that end in -er and -est.
Vocabulary Strategy: -er, -est endings
Students review the high frequency words: because, better, go, me, old, really, right, they, was, you
Students will bring home a short, one-page story summary for our main selection. Please read this with your child and ask them simple questions like, “Can you give one fact about a jellyfish?” and “Can you give one opinion about a jellyfish?” Please also read the mini-books sent home with the children in their Thursday book bag. Notice at the back of each book that there is an explanation of the target skills and also a list of vocabulary words. Remember to also be reading each night, and marking a sticker on your child’s reading calendar 😉
