This week, third graders read chapters 8-9 in the Boxcar Children. 
Our target comprehension skills include: setting, cause and effect and main idea and details. Students use graphic organizers to demonstrate understanding of these skills.
We also use various apps on our iPads to help practice fluent reading (Chatterkid, Quick Voice). Students practice reading a short selection from each chapter. We record once before we practice and then again after we practice. Students self-assess their oral reading skills and set goals for improving accuracy, rate, expression and punctuation.
