Students read chapter 3 in The Boxcar Children.
Our target comprehension skills are: elements of plot and sequencing events.
Fluency: SMOOTHNESS. students practice using a technique we call, “swoop-swoop” reading. They “swoop” together 4-5 word phrases and pause at the end of sentences, as opposed to the end of the line of text. This eliminates the “chop-chop” reading that sometimes happens when students read word for word.
Scholastic News: Our current events stories are so interesting! Students read through articles to identify main ideas and supporting details as they use various graphic organizers. A recent Scholastic News Magazine will be included in this week’s supply pick-up packet!
