Students read chapters 7-8 in the Boxcar Children.

Our target comprehension skills include: cause & effect and setting.

Students are getting into the suspenseful parts of the story and enjoying predicting what will happen next. It is hard to put the book down at the end of each chapter! We continue to think about the characters and name character traits based on the characters’ words and actions.

Vocabulary: Syllabication: students review the 6 main rules for breaking words into syllables. This skill helps with decoding and also spelling words.

Fluency: we continue to develop smooth and expressive reading. Students record themselves reading aloud using their iPads. We set individual fluency goals, practice reading and then re-record to check for progress.
