Second grade students read My Name is Gabriela, and Poems about Reading and Writing.
Our target comprehension skills are: ‘ Understanding Characters, Author’s Word Choce.’
Phonics Focus: Students practice reading and writing words that have the long /e/ sound (free, teach, wheel, meat, etc.)
Vocabulary Strategy: using suffixes -y and -ful
Students review the high frequency words: always, anything, been, draw, friends, mother, soon, under, watch, words
Our fluency goal this week is to read with great expression. Good readers add interest and enjoyment to their reading by using their voices to express or show the feelings and thoughts behind the words in the story.
Essential Question: Why are reading and writing important?
