Students read Ah, Music! and the poem, “There’s a Hole at the Bottom of the Sea”

Our target comprehension skill is: ‘text and graphic features.’ This is an important tool as we read informational text selections.

Phonics: Students practice reading and writing words that have phonograms ai and ay.

Vocabulary: Students review the high frequency words: against, along, bird, different, girl, hold, morning, night, part, someone

Students learn about idioms. Idioms are sayings or expressions; a group of words that means something different than the meaning of each individual word.

Fluency: Rate: Good readers change their rate of reading. Sometimes, they read quickly. Other times they read slowly. Their rate depends on their purpose, or why they are reading.
