Sept. 25, 2017

This week, students begin our first novel unit as we read Charlotte’s Web. Our target skills are: setting and sequencing. This novel is rich with vocabulary. We explore new words as we define, sketch, compare and use in context new, challenging, interesting or important words in each chapter.

In Charlotte’s Web, E.B. White uses dialogue extensively. Students learn to identify inspirational, humorous, or revealing quotes in each chapter and discuss ways they are important or influential. Students keep a list of these quotes in a special folder and can refer to them later in the unit when they will be assigned a special ‘quote project.’ (more details on that to come later….)

Together, we enjoy reading “the most perfect book ever written…”
